Tips

For Beginners

The key to defeating as many stages of Shadowland is to strategize your use of characters.

  • Use worse characters in the first few stages and, slowly work your way up to higher stages using better and better characters. (i.e.: Use respectable Tier 1 characters for the first 15 stages as much as possible.)
  • Unless you have at least 75 characters unlocked at six stars, it is wise to use only one character per stage for the earlier stages.
  • Organize your use of characters. In a group of Tier 1 characters, there are better and worse characters - don't use a Tier 1 Luna Snow for the first stage, instead use someone like White Tiger.
  • Crowd control is extremely important in most Shadowland stages, as many opponents do not have crowd control immunity. Therefore, characters like Spider-man (for webbing), Luna Snow (for freezing), Storm, Quicksilver, etc. are very effective.
  • It is recommended that your characters are at least at 6-star mastery to easily clear earlier stages (~15 or below), and at Tier 2 for later stages (~above 15).
  • Use characters that are effective for stages. For instance, a stage where combat type is said to be effective, use combat type to deal damage, otherwise your character will deal extremely low damage.

For levels 30-35

These levels are tough. They seem to need level 70 characters, often from a very specific group, though extremely powerful characters can in some cases (e.g. Level 32 – see below) get through even though they don't fit the level's guidance. Going into the specifics would overly pad this page, but these levels should be researched well in advance and some consideration given to advancing relevant characters. The weekly reward for level 32 is a 150 bios selector, so as a new player being able to reach and beat this level should probably be a medium term goal. Levels 33-35 should probably be a long term goal, not a medium term goal, as the weekly rewards for them are insignificant compared to the effort required to complete them to a relatively new player.

For the more Advanced

  • Things change a bit at level 36. From that point on Tier 1 characters can't be used. However, this does not mean that you want to stop using 3 characters or even 6, because you get chest fragments for each character that survives, so you can save a lot of time (presuming that you don't need to clear more levels, e.g. you're going for new first clears or the Cosmic Core event is active) by beating a group of enemies with other characters hidden from combat. Obviously this can be tougher with Rumble levels. It can still be used, but it's probably not advisable because it will take two more characters with survivability that could be used to carry characters without survivability or without enough damage through later levels. E.g. you could use Sentry, Deadpool and Jean Grey in a Rumble and it would save you time at that point, which is fine if they're your last 3 available characters, but each one could possibly carry your Tier 2 Black Cat and Tier 2 Yellowjacket through a Relay, Boss or Wave level they couldn't possibly clear alone, so if you have 2 more characters like that you should probably Rumble with just a single character from level 36 of Shadowland onwards.
  • Another approach to the Rumble and fragile characters can be taken, because a lot of characters that are fragile as NPCs can stay alive if they're played manually. So it could make sense to make a team of two strong characters that will have no trouble surviving and finishing the fight as NPCs, even while you play the third character and just do what you have to keep it standing. Don't forget that you can start over if you do lose a character.
